The health impacts of global climate change on maternal and child health can no longer be ignored. To illustrate the problem and the solutions at hand, HEAL partnered with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to launch an easy-to-use infographic for health advocates and policy-makers.

The infographic and supporting social media materials launched today give an overview of the ways in which climate change can increase health risks to pregnant women and their children, and are available in 9 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Bosnian and Serbian.

This infographic is the first in a new series on environmental health and pregnancy. Subsequent editions will be published by HEAL, FIGO and USCF in summer and autumn 2020.

The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is the only organization that brings together professional societies of obstetricians and gynecologists on a global level. Figo is dedicated to the improvement of women’s health and rights and to the reduction of disparities in healthcare available to women and newborns, as well as to advancing the science and practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

The UCSF Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment’s mission is to create a healthier environment for human reproduction and development through advancing scientific inquiry, clinical care and health policies that prevent exposures to harmful chemicals in our environment.

The Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) is the leading not-for-profit organisation addressing how the environment affects human health in the European Union (EU) and beyond. HEAL works to shape laws and policies that promote planetary and human health and protect those most affected by pollution, and raise awareness on the benefits of environmental action for health.
