HEAL and several of members participated in the Second World Health Organization Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health in Colombia, March 2025, to showcase how health engagement for clean air can make a difference, and to underline the urgency to act.
Today, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety voted on the revision of the EU’s Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD) (2022/0347(COD)).
The report by rapporteur Javi Lopez was adopted with 46 in favour, 41 against and 1 abstention, with all compromise amendments adopted.
Anne Stauffer, Deputy Director of the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) comments:
“The ENVI committee has taken a major step towards cleaner air for everyone today: health groups are delighted that MEPs followed the science, and people’s needs by supporting an ambitious overhaul of the EU’s clean air standards.
Clean air is a question of political will, not an individual or lifestyle choice. This political will now needs to show in the European Parliament plenary.”
