Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to everyone's health across the EU, and one of the leading risk factors for chronic diseases. Today, pathways to reach clean air in cities by 2030 will be discussed by more than 340 participants from 33 countries at an international conference taking place in Brussels.
ClientEarth, CAN Europe, CEE Bankwatch, E3G and HEAL have sent a joint letter to Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager concerning the leaked draft Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (“TCTF”) and our concerns by the direction taken.
The proposed changes to the Temporary Crisis Framework come with risks. They are far reaching, even if “temporary”. We are concerned that the risks outweigh the potential benefits, not only in terms of impact on the single market but also on the environment and especially the EU’s climate commitments. We have three concerns:
1. The lack of green conditionalities
2. The risk of inconsistencies with the Guidelines on State aid for climate, environmental
protection and energy (“CEEAG”)
3. The lack of public consultation and transparency
