In 2025, HEAL welcomed several new organisations into its international network of over 70 members committed to advancing health through environmental action. These new members bring valuable expertise in public health, environmental justice, and sustainable policy, further strengthening the capacity of the alliance to help face the challenges from biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change. HEAL among many other organisations call for the negotiators of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation to reach an agreement on a robust approach to address substances of concern in packaging materials in the ongoing discussions, keeping in mind to maintain the ambition of the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. In particular the organisations call for the introduction of restrictions in the cases of significant risks to human health or the environment with wording aligned with the ESPR, and to especially introduce bans on PFAS and BPA in packaging.
