HEAL’s Sandra Jen spoke at a recent webinar organised by the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL), to discuss the health impacts of PFAS pollution and specifically their link with cancer.

The recording of the webinar is now available and can be accessed here.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals used in a wide range of everyday products – from non-stick frying pans and food packaging to clothes and cosmetics. Known as “forever chemicals” for their ability to persist in the environment for up to 1,000 years, PFAS are increasingly under scientific scrutiny for their links to serious health impacts, including many different types of cancer. Join the MEPs Against Cancer Interest Group for an important discussion on growing body of scientific evidence between PFAS and cancer, the widespread use of these substances in consumer goods, and the urgent need for action to reduce people’s exposure. This webinar was hosted by MEP Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA), Vice-Chair of the MEPs Against Cancer Interest Group, with support from the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL). Featured speakers include:

  • Tom Buis (Strategic Policy Advisor at the Dutch Cancer Society, representing the Association of European Cancer Leagues – ECL)
  • Paul Speight (Head of Unit, Safe and Sustainable Chemicals at the EU Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment)
  • Sandra Jen (Programme Lead for Health and Chemicals at the Health and Environment Alliance – HEAL)
