Healthy hospitals, healthy planet, healthy people

In May 2009, HEAL and Health Care Without Harm Europe worked with the World Health Organization to produce a discussion document entitled Healthy Hospitals, Healthy Planet, Healthy People: Addressing climate change in health care settings. The paper highlights the leading role that health-sector can play in reducing the magnitude and consequences of global warming by bringing its own house in order.

The joint document provides case studies of what hospitals can do to reduce their carbon footprint, including special mention of the efforts of the UK National Health Service.
