PAN Europe/WECF - Letter to EU Commissioner for Ban of Two Cancer-Inducing Pesticides

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the WHO’s cancer agency has recently classified the pesticide glyphosate as a “probable human carcinogen”.

In the view Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe highlights in a letter to EU health commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis that Glyphosate and Malathion should be taken off the market as a precautionary measure to protect workers, consumers, bystanders and residents against the risks of these chemicals.

Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF) welcomes this recent initiative from PAN Europe and has therefore signed the letter as well.

In April HEAL also sent a letter with HEAL members PAN Europe, Alliance for Cancer Prevention and partner organisations Friends of the Earth Europe, and Greenpeace, to the EU Health Commissioner asking him to suspend, as a precautionary measure, the EU approval of glyphosate for uses for which the potential for public and worker exposure is particularly high.
