Inter Environnement Wallonie - Wallonia on its way to ban glyphosate

Ahead of an important vote on the re-authorisation of the pesticide glyphosate in Brussels on 24 June, Federation Inter-Environnement Wallonie (IEW) urged the Belgian Federal Environment Minister not to support the continued use of this potentially carcinogenic chemical in the EU.

For months, the question about whether or not to re-authorise glyphosate in Europe has dominated both Brussels and the EU Member States.

Several days before the EU decision took place, a proposal for the removal of the pesticide in Wallonia was discussed in the Wallonian Parliament. IEW and Nature & Progrès (N&P) welcomed this policy initiative, which responds not only to wide-spread public demand but also to field observations: glyphosate could have serious impacts on the health of farmers, residents, quality surface water and groundwater and biodiversity in particular.
