Fundación Alborada – International experts make statement on environmental health

From 5 – 7 June, Fundación Alborada organised the 8th edition of the Conference on Environmental Medicine in Brunete, Madrid. Several international high-level scientists, medical doctors and experts gathered to discuss how the environment can affect our health, particularly looking at multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), autism, hormonal problems, and electro hypersensitivity (EHS).

A highlight of this year’s conference was the agreement among experts to create both a national and international society for environmental medicine, to be launched over the next weeks. In addition, the experts drafted the “Brunete Statement on Environmental Medicine”, in which they call for, amongst other things:

  • To include diseases with a clear environmental origin (MCS, EHS…) in the International Classification of Diseases of the WHO;
  • To take action in schools, health centres, and public places to minimise the exposure to physical hazards as much as possible;
  • National governments and the World Health Organization (WHO) to adopt necessary measures to closely monitor everyday consumer goods such as food, cosmetics, textiles, mobile phones.

    To date, the Brunete Statement has been signed by more than 100 international experts, doctors, patients, organisations.

    Further information about the conference and for signing the statement

    The conference was covered on Spanish national TV RTVE available here:
