ABCF: ‘Harnessing action on Cancer as an EU priority’ with EU Commissioner for Health

Esther Sant, the new Chairperson of the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation (ACBF) participated at a recent European Parliament event entitled: “We Care, With Love, Harnessing Action on Cancer as an EU priority”. This conference, hosted by the MEP Claudette Abela Baldachino, was very well attended and the audience was honoured with the presence of the Commissioner for Health Tonio Borg.

In her presentation, Esther addressed the barriers associated with National Breast Screening Uptake in Malta and underlined the EU support which is needed to investigate social and misinformation factors and to set up Accredited Breast Units by 2016, in accordance with EU guidelines.

In memory of admirable Helen Muscat, Esther says to HEAL members and supporters:

’’Dear HEAL members and supporters,

After the sad loss of our dear Chairperson Helen Muscat I was entrusted with the role of the Chairperson of Action for Breast Cancer Foundation. It’s a challenging mission, however we all agree that her wish of continuing ‘these dear unfinished tasks’ we’ll do our best to accomplish with the support of all the committee members and volunteers in her honour. It’s not easy to fit in Helen’s shoes and I admit I cannot do it as she was one dynamic personality that knew all about breast cancer from both a health care professional and a survivor point of view.’’
