Paris International Environmental Film Festival 2016

This year’s winners at FIFE included a short film “Quiet zone” on what it feels like to be sensitive to electromagnetic fields (EMF). This year’s festival took place from 5 – 12 April in Paris, and as in previous years, HEAL was a partner of the event.

The Canadian film Quiet zone shown at this year’s Paris environmental film festival provided spectators with an opportunity to understand what it is like to live with electromagnetic hypersensitivity. Drawing on the words of two sufferers and using complex imagery and sound, the film takes spectators deep into the world of those who suffer from this condition. Sound and image are distorted to make the distress of these “wave refugees” real. Watch the trailer here.

Two other films touching on health environmental themes were:

Every Last Child by Tom Roberts (United Arab Emirates/Pakistan – 2015 – 87’ – in English with French subtitles)
This is the story of five people caught up in the current polio crisis in Pakistan. It tells of their sorrow, sacrifice and fearless determination in the face of mistrust, cynicism and violence.

Animal Machine by Bernard Bloch (France – 2015 – 52’ in French)
This documentary tells the story of the Holstein cow, whose milk yield has risen fourfold in just a few decades thanks to new techniques in the science of breeding. The transformation of dairy farming into industrial production is recounted through the story of this cow.

The screening of Animal Machine was followed by a discussion on how to eat well and with pleasure while respecting the environment.
