Join our #StopGlyphosate action day!

Over 720,000 Europeans have already signed a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to stop glyphosate, the most widely used weedkiller in Europe. To reach the threshold of one million signatures needed to hand over the petition to the European Commission, HEAL and its partners are organising an offline day of action on 13 May.

Glyphosate, also known as Roundup, is a Monsanto brand-name. In 2015, the World Health Organization’s specialised cancer agency categorised glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. Together with other health and environment groups from all over Europe, HEAL launched a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to ban glyphosate earlier this year.

An ECI demands that the European Commission propose legislation on matters for which the EU has competencies. In the coming months, HEAL and other campaigners across Europe will aim to collect at least one million signatures from Europeans and submit the petition before the Commission’s next move to renew, withdraw, or extend the EU license of glyphosate.

To reach this threshold, an offline day of action will be organised on 13 May, 2017. On this day of action, an estimated 100 volunteers around Europe will go on the streets to collect signatures for our petition and to inform people about why our health and the environment should be protected from glyphosate.
