HEAL as jury member in European fossil fuel subsidies awards campaign

As many governments prefer not talk about or even hide the fact that they are funding fossil fuels, these awards aim to put these subsidies in the spotlight and increase pressure to phase them out. It is unfair to keep European citizens in the dark, when fossil fuel subsidies impact health and the environment.

HEAL joins this campaign by the Climate Action Network Europe (CAN-E) as a jury member together with WWF Europe, Green Budget Europe, Friends of the Earth Europe, CounterBalance, CEE Bankwatch, Overseas Development Institute and Oil Change International. HEAL will use its expertise on the health impacts of fossil fuel subsidies to help the jury make suggestions for the selection criteria for nominations.

By nominating a subsidy for an award, everyone can contribute to exposing governments and public institutions who promise to tackle climate change while at the same time fund fossil fuels. Nominations can be made here:

The campaign was launched in early February which is now divided into three main parts over four months:

- Public nomination period 2 February - 28 February

- Jury’s shortlisting of the nominations 1 March - 31 March

- Public voting period 3 April - 8 May

We hope you will join us and we are looking forward to receiving nominations!
