Climate and Health Summit 2014

This year’s Climate and Health Summit organised by the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA), of which HEAL is a member takes place alongside the official UN International Climate negotiations (UNFCCC COP20) in Peru, Lima.

The 2014 Climate and Health Summit will be an occasion to showcase success stories, and coordinate action across all sectors to protect human health from the impacts of climate change. The Summit will be held in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); and co-hosted by the School of Public Health & Administration at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.

The Summit aims to highlight that addressing climate change presents an opportunity to invest in a cleaner, healthier and more equitable world. Highly engaging speakers will include experts from the World Bank, World Health Organization, and local public health groups at the forefront of climate program implementation.

The health impacts of climate change are many and varied, acting at both small scale local level as well as having impacts globally. As the international community works toward a post-2020 agreement on climate action, it is crucial that human health considerations are central to these discussions.

The Summit will deliberate on the role of health and how best to mobilise the international health sphere in the run up to UNFCCC COP21 and the UN General Assembly in 2015.
