Centre for Sustainable Healthcare

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (formerly ’The Campaign for Greener Healthcare’) is a dynamic, independent team working on the interface between health and sustainability to bring health messages into the centre of the climate change agenda and to transform healthcare for a sustainable future.

Set up in early 2008 by Sir Muir Gray and Rachel Stancliffe, the campaign has become a leading force in the field of health and sustainability and is attracting interest from a wide range of organisations in both the environmental and health sectors.

Their work concentrates on three areas: engagement, knowledge sharing and transformation [of ideas].

Through working in partnership we aim to:

• engage health professionals, patients and the wider community in the science of sustainability through campaigns and education, in the stories of positive change and in the urgency to act and promote what is ‘good for the environment is good for health’

• share ideas and knowledge on sustainable healthcare and assess and improve current evidence

• transform healthcare systems and practices by working with NHS organisations

The Centre believes healthcare has a great opportunity, both in terms of the important synergy with the core business of keeping people healthy and in terms of the great potential for health organisations to take a leading role in making the future sustainable for all."
