Hainaut Vigilance Sanitaire

The Hygiène Publique en Hainaut’s (HPH) focuses on the links between the environment and human health. It works with the support of the Provincial Institute of Hygiene and Bacteriology of the Hainaut (IPHB) and it plays an important role in risk prevention though awareness raising actions and public communication. Their main activities are the following: control of water quality, air analysis, study of pollution sources and effects, soil and waste analyses, ecotoxicology, hygiene and food quality control, medical and toxicological analyses, indoor pollution and the housing salubrity.

The Institut is involved in projects like: the WHO human milk monitoring in Belgium, blood lead monitoring, indoor air quality (including child care centers and schools), development and implementation of surveillance programs (around incineration installation, cement factories or others instructial facilities). They have also participated in the HEAL & HCWH mercury campaign.
