The Health and Environment Alliance alongside the NGOs Chemsec, ClientEarth, Ecologistas en Acción and the European Environmental Bureau have provided analysis and recommendations as a response to the European Commission's call for written input in the context of the recent 'Reality Check Workshop' proposal for simplification of the CLP Regulation.
HEAL has commented on the CARACAL 54 presentation of the main findings from the investigation report on aromatic brominated flame retardants.
As already underlined in a joint NGO letter to the EU Commission from the end of March 2025, HEAL calls on the Commission to swiftly give a mandate to ECHA to restrict all ABFRs, based on the findings within the 2024 investigation report and the 2023 regulatory strategy for flame retardants.
In addition to the joint letter, HEAL has listed comments onhttps://www.env-health.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/HEAL-comments-on-ABFR-investigation-report.pdf points that were briefly touched upon during the CARACAL-54 discussions which are additional reasons for a fast restriction of ABFRs and strongly oppose a further delay in risk management of this group of chemicals.
