Joint Task Force on health aspects of air pollution
For the first time HEAL participated in a meeting of the Joint Task Force on Health Aspects of Air Pollution, established within the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution.
The meeting brought together around 50 participants including representatives from World Health Organization (WHO) European region member states (from the health ministries/public health institutes); scientists, the EU Commission, WHO and UN representatives.
Participants learned about WHO’s current work on air quality, which includes upcoming guidelines for household fuel combustion. This publication is part of a series on indoor air quality and will be particularly relevant regarding work on domestic coal combustion. Participants learned also about the follow up to the recommendation by REVIHAAP for an update of the WHO air quality guidelines. HEAL Deputy Director Anne Stauffer highlighted the importance of these guidelines for action on air quality at local level and urged that the review process should start as soon as possible.
