Caisse Auxiliaire d’Assurance Maladie - Invalidité (CAAMI) / Hulpkas voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering (HZIV)
CAAMI is a public institution for social security in Wallonie, while HZIV is a public institution for social security in Flanders. They assume all the benefits of compulsory insurance and health care benefits, like health insurance funds, but as part of a public nature it provides:
- an intervention in health care costs
- compensation for damages for loss of earnings (family, illness or disability);
- an allowance for funeral expenses
Their principle objectives and activities are:
- enable operation of the national compulsory health and invalidity insurance system;
- inform and protect the members;
- cooperate with health care practitioners and institutions to preserve both quality and accessibility of health care;
- contribute, as members of National Health Institute decision making committees, to defining national health care policy.
