Caisse Auxiliaire d’Assurance Maladie - Invalidité (CAAMI) / Hulpkas voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering (HZIV)

CAAMI is a public institution for social security in Wallonie, while HZIV is a public institution for social security in Flanders. They assume all the benefits of compulsory insurance and health care benefits, like health insurance funds, but as part of a public nature it provides:

  • an intervention in health care costs
  • compensation for damages for loss of earnings (family, illness or disability);
  • an allowance for funeral expenses

Their principle objectives and activities are:

  • enable operation of the national compulsory health and invalidity insurance system;
  • inform and protect the members;
  • cooperate with health care practitioners and institutions to preserve both quality and accessibility of health care;
  • contribute, as members of National Health Institute decision making committees, to defining national health care policy.
