The Health & Environment Alliance is recruiting a Policy & Communication Intern for a six-month period from September 2008 to February 2009.
The Health & Environment Alliance is an international non-governmental organisation advocating environmental protection as a means to improving health and well-being. It regularly hosts interns for its Brussels-based Secretariat. For more information see: www.env-health.org
Provide support for the management of the website of the Chemicals Health Monitor, a source of information on chemicals and disease (www.chemicalshealthmonitor.org)
Research, write articles for the main website (www.env-health.org) and compile the monthly electronic newsletter
Assist in the development and follow-up of advocacy campaigns
Assist in the organisation of conferences and workshops
Manage and update databases of experts and journalists
Carry out other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job.
Graduate - bachelor degree
Working knowledge of EU institutions and processes
Experience or interest in environmental health policy
Some journalism or online communication training would be an asset
Very good written and verbal skills in English; French would be an asset
Good working knowledge of standard office software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel); experience in website editing and/or writing on-line articles, blogs, and/or be familiar with online social communities would be an additional asset
Cooperative personality with a sense of initiative and flexibility in undertaking a workload within tight deadlines
Ability to generate ideas
Ability to proofread with strong attention to details
Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously
Belgian contract of “professional immersion” of EUR 617 per month; local transport costs covered
Duration of 6 months, starting date - 1 September 2008.
