Green 10 letter to President Barroso on transport policy

On 23 May 2006, the Green 10 group of environmental NGOs, which includes EPHA Environment Network, reacted to the European Commission mid-term review of the Common Transport White Paper.

In a letter sent to President Barroso, the Green 10 express concern on a number of issues including:
* lack of coordination with other EU policy prioririties, in particular the Sustainable Development Strategy;
* conflict with the Lisbon Strategy as transport growth is not linked to increased employment;
* unjustifiable subsidies and funds to prioritise road infrastructure.

In short, the Green 10 regret that, while aiming at sustainable mobility, the European Commission is actually about to embark on an unsustainable new transport policy which has little or no economic justification and undermines several other key European policies.
