BirdLife International, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) have organized a one-day conference on the sustainable path for biofuels in the EU. The event will take place on 7 June 2006 in Brussels.

As the political momentum builds behind the biofuel industry across the EU and as the revision of the Biofuels Directive approaches, this event presents a timely opportunity to explore with a wide range of stakeholders -including industry, farmers, the European Commission, and civil society- the critical issue of how the EU can deliver on its commitment to ensure the sustainability of biofuels.

The aim of the conference is to start a fruitful cooperation among stakeholders that will lead towards a policy framework that will ensure the responsible and sustainable use of biofuels.

Participants will hear from and have the chance to question experts in biofuels and sustainability from across Europe, who will be explaining the barriers that need to be overcome if biofuels are to be produced sustainably.
