Global city: a conference on sustainable urban future

The second Global City international urban management summit will take place in Lyon (France) from 17 to 19 May 2006. Bringing together leading cities and experts, the event is dedicated to the exchange of good practices and approaches to make our cities more sustainable.

This unique international forum is expected to attract 1.000 urban decision-makers from over 200 cities and 35 countries. Around the general theme of “Creating a sustainable future”, a comprehensive conference programme will address the economic, environmental, social and financial dimensions of urban sustainable planning. Along with speeches, special events and networking opportunities, over 50 cities will present their strategies and initiatives.

Nowadays more than ever, local authorities are faced with rapidly changing environments. These changes require city decision-makers to adopt an integrated global approach to urban management in partnership with all stakeholders, to embrace sustainable development, incorporating economic social and environmental concerns, and to reinforce the economic potential and attractiveness of cities at an international level.
