GAMAH (action group for a better access to handicapped people) is a 25 year old association based in Namur (Belgium) organizing training sessions for professionals of city planning. Its next training will take place on June 23rd, from 10am to 12am at the Centre Administratif du MET (Ministère wallon de l’Equipement et des Transports) [1]. The association has a service called "Pédibus" providing council for walking course, and this one will raise the questions of the place of walkers in the city and how a balance can be found between them and other users of the road.
The trainings target all people concerned with city planning: mayors, municipal councilors, transport councilors, professionals of tourism or mobility, architects, contractor, members of associations dealing with city planning, etc.
GAMAH’s objectives are to promote access for people with reduced mobility to ways and buildings. That can be for many reasons like the age, the size, incapacitating disease, an accident, a permanent or temporary handicap, etc. It concerns basically everybody at a certain point of their life. Therefore GAMAH is trying to interpellate politicians and contractors on the obstacles to mobility. They aim at putting forward technical solutions to these issues, as well as raising awareness of people.
The “Pédibus” training suggested will take place on September 29th, from 1pm to 5pm and December 6th from 9am to 1pm.
