Health joins environmental platform to make the Green 9

Press advisory

Brussels, 15 October 2004. The European Public Health Alliance Environment Network, known as EEN, has joined the environmental platform of NGOs formerly known as the Green 8.

Other members of the platform include BirdLife International, European Community Office; Climate Action Network Europe (CAN-E); European Environmental Bureau (EEB); European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E); Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE); Greenpeace European Unit; International Friends of Nature (NFI) and World Wildlife Fund European Policy Office (WWF-EPO).

“EPHA’s Environment Network will bring new resources to our group, and especially expertise on how health is affected by environmental factors,” according to John Hontelez, Secretary General of the European Environment Bureau.

“The public wants better protection of both their health and the environment, two crucial concerns which are often interlinked. By working together at the EU level, the Green 9 is well-placed to defend these concerns,” says Martin Rocholl, Director of Friends of the Earth Europe.

The EPHA Environment Network (EEN) is an independent health and environment network based in Brussels. Its aims include encouraging the participation of civil society on issues that affect health and the environment, and working to strengthen EU policies that favour better environmental protection as a means to improving health and well being.
